Cigweld Comweld Comcoat C

The Cigweld Comweld Comcoat C is a self-fluxing, low-fuming manganese bronze filler rod designed for general purpose braze welding applications. With high bond strength and excellent transverse tensile performance, this rod is ideal for joining steel, cast iron and malleable iron in maintenance and repair environments.

Comcoat C is a flux-coated manganese bronze rod, making it easy to use for gas (braze) welding without the need for separate flux application. The distinctive blue flux coating allows for instant identification in the workshop.

Comweld Comcoat C is recommended for:

• Braze welding of mild steel

With a tensile strength of approximately 460 MPa and elongation around 35%, this manganese bronze filler rod provides strong, ductile joints capable of handling stress and vibration in service.

Its approximate melting point of 890°C allows effective braze welding without melting the parent material, reducing distortion and preserving base metal properties.

Self-Fluxing & Low Fuming

The self-fluxing coating simplifies the brazing process by assisting with surface cleaning and wetting during heating. The alloy produces low fume levels compared to many alternative bronze rods, making it a practical choice for workshop environments.

For braze welding applications, a slightly oxidising flame is recommended. The base material should be preheated to a dull red prior to applying the filler rod to ensure proper tinning and bonding.

Important Application Notes

Comweld Comcoat C is not recommended for joining copper pipes carrying hot water or seawater due to the risk of dezincification in bronze alloys. For those applications, a suitable copper-based brazing alloy should be selected.
