Description

ESAB OK 48.08 Electrodes (E7018-G)

OK 48.08 from ESAB is a premium low-alloy stick electrode designed for welding carbon and carbon-manganese steels, particularly where elevated yield strength and impact toughness are required. Commonly used in offshore structures, it offers exceptional mechanical properties, including impact resistance at temperatures as low as -60°C.

This electrode features an LMA-type basic coating with extremely low moisture absorption and delivers a very low diffusible hydrogen content of less than 4ml/100g. Alloyed with 0.9% nickel, it ensures excellent toughness and reduced risk of hydrogen-induced cracking.

OK 48.08 can be used with both AC and DC+/- current sources and performs reliably even under tough environmental conditions. It is HIC and SSC test compliant as per NACE TM0284 and TM0177, making it ideal for critical structural work.

Key Features:

  • E7018-G H4R classification (SFA/AWS A5.5)
  • Low hydrogen: <4.0 ml/100g
  • High impact toughness: up to 105J at -46°C after PWHT
  • Excellent weldability on AC and DC
  • Alloyed with ~0.9% Ni for superior impact properties
  • Suitable for offshore and high-stress structural fabrication
  • Available in multiple diameters: 2.5mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm
  • Typical weights: 1.7kg, 2.3kg, 3.7kg
  • CE marked and approved by ABS, DNV-GL, LR, RS, VdTÜV, DB, and more

Typical Mechanical Properties:

  • As welded: 540 MPa yield, 630 MPa tensile, 26% elongation
  • PWHT 620°C for 1hr: 480 MPa yield, 550 MPa tensile, 26% elongation
  • Impact values (as welded): 85J at -50°C, 65J at -60°C

Typical Weld Metal Composition:

  • C: 0.06%, Mn: 1.2%, Si: 0.35%, Ni: 0.95%, Cr: 0.02%, Mo: 0.001%
